Shanghai's Ban to "pseudo-environmentally friendly" disposable tableware
Starting from September 1st, 2025, Shanghai completely have banned the use of "pseudo-environmentally friendly" disposable tableware, such as those made with PE coatings and difficult to recycle.
This ban, jointly promoted by multiple departments, aims to completely eliminate these environmentally polluting products. Violators may face heavy fines or even business suspension. This primarily affects paper cups and lunch boxes containing plastic linings, which cannot be effectively recycled. Compliance paths include adopting easily recyclable technologies such as "paper-based+water-based barrier coating." These products can be recycled into existing waste paper recycling systems.
Several companies in Shanghai have jointly promoted the formation of relevant technology and industry alliances to encourage brands to use truly environmentally friendly and recyclable alternatives. This move is not only a policy compliance requirement but also a significant opportunity for companies to enhance their green competitiveness and move towards sustainable development, bringing motivation to the molded fiber food packaging industry.
