[News] McDonald’s Global Packaging Innovation: Accelerating Plastic Reduction

Release time:

Jul 24,2025

McDonald's implements global sustainable pulp packaging reducing plastic while preserving food quality.

To fulfill its commitment to achieving 100% recyclable or renewable global packaging by 2025, Taiwan—as a key pioneer—has phased out traditional paper boxes for core products like the Big Mac and Filet-O-Fish since July 2025. Thinner paper-based solutions now reduce plastic consumption by 86 tonnes annually. Globally, markets adopt localized innovations: Europe promotes reusable containers , Mainland China tests recycled plastic trays and biodegradable beverage bags in 40 pilot restaurants, while the U.S. accelerates foam elimination and transitions to sustainable molded fiber packaging.

Take pulp molded packaging: Its performance meets rigorous standards. For high-temperature items (e.g., nuggets, fries), it delivers superior oil/water resistance—ensuring safe handling and crispness retention. Meanwhile, the optimized insulation performance prevents burns and maintains food temperature. For beverages, specialized heat-resistant treatments are applied. McDonald's is empowering consumers with pulp molding to provide an environmentally friendly and high-quality dining experience, from the lids of sundae ice cream cups to hot drink containers.

Inspired by McDonald’s eco-packaging leadership, Minjie develops high-performance, biodegradable solutions using food-grade pulp molding and bio-based materials.
