Trade war started
US President Trump announced a "reciprocal tariff" policy, imposing a 10% base tariff on "friendly" countries and a substantial increase in tariffs on "competitive threat" countries. China faces an additional tariff of 34%, with a total tariff rate of 54%. The EU and China have expressed the possibility of countermeasures, while the UK, Australia and other countries have chosen to compromise and reduce tariffs on US goods in exchange for exemptions.
The White House also canceled the tax-free policy for low-priced Chinese packages, further exerting pressure. Faced with the tough attitude of the United States, China has limited room for concessions and can only respond firmly while accelerating the expansion of domestic demand to ease foreign trade pressure. The escalation of the trade war is a foregone conclusion, and China needs to be prepared for a long-term game.
