Bamboo Pulp Leader Invests 2.9 Billion Yuan in Capacity Expansion to Consolidate the Raw Material Foundation for Pulp Molding's "Bamboo Replacing Plastic" Strategy

In February 2026, a leading enterprise in China's bamboo pulp industry announced a major capacity expansion plan, investing 2.948 billion yuan in the construction of the third-phase project. Focusing on increasing the production capacity of high-end bleached bamboo pulp and optimizing the existing production capacity structure simultaneously, this move will further ease the pressure on raw material supply in the pulp molding industry, provide a solid raw material guarantee for the implementation of the "bamboo replacing plastic" strategy, and promote the high-quality development of the industry towards green and sustainable development.
It is reported that the planned new land for this capacity expansion project is 420 mu, with the core capacity increase focusing on the field of bleached chemical bamboo pulp, adding 390,000 tons/year of production capacity. At the same time, the existing 156,000 tons/year unbleached bamboo pulp production line will be technically renovated and upgraded to fully convert to bleached bamboo pulp production. After the completion of the project, the total bamboo pulp production capacity of the leading enterprise will achieve a doubling growth, jumping from the current 360,000 tons/year to 750,000 tons/year, with an additional supporting 200,000 tons/year base paper production capacity. The total pulp and paper production capacity will reach 1.25 million tons/year, making it a world-leading bamboo pulp production base.
From the perspective of the demand in the pulp molding industry, bamboo pulp has become one of the core raw materials for "bamboo replacing plastic" by virtue of its unique advantages. Bamboo has a short growth cycle and strong carbon sequestration capacity, with an annual carbon sequestration of 1.5 tons per mu of bamboo forest. Moreover, after technological improvement, its fiber tear strength can reach 18.5 kN·m/kg, which is significantly better than ordinary straw pulp, adapting to the needs of high-end packaging scenarios of pulp molding. At the same time, its fully biodegradable characteristics perfectly meet the global plastic restriction policies and the ESG transformation needs of brands, with a continuously increasing penetration rate in food contact, electronic packaging and other fields.
At present, China's pulp molding industry is in a period of rapid growth. In 2025, China's pulp molding production capacity accounted for 56.8% of the world's total. However, the insufficient supply of high-end bamboo pulp raw materials and cost fluctuations have restricted the industry's transformation towards high-end and large-scale development to a certain extent. The major capacity expansion of the leading enterprise this time can not only fill the gap in high-end bamboo pulp production capacity, but also reduce the unit cost of bamboo pulp through large-scale production, ease the pressure on raw material costs of pulp molding enterprises, and promote the optimization of the industry's raw material structure.
Combined with the industry policy orientation, since the implementation of the "Three-Year Action Plan for Accelerating the Development of 'Bamboo Replacing Plastic'", the state has continuously increased policy and financial support for the bamboo industry. As the core raw material for "bamboo replacing plastic", the capacity expansion of bamboo pulp has become an inevitable trend in the industry's development. This capacity expansion project is closely aligned with the policy orientation, focusing on the efficient utilization of bamboo pulp resources, and adopting advanced production technologies to achieve dual breakthroughs in reducing pollution emissions and improving production efficiency, helping the pulp molding industry build a full-chain green ecology of "raw materials - processing - products".
Industry insiders said that the capacity expansion of the bamboo pulp leader this time will further consolidate China's core position in the global pulp molding raw material supply, drive the large-scale and standardized development of the industry's raw material end, provide support for pulp molding enterprises to expand high-end application scenarios, and at the same time promote the implementation of the "bamboo replacing plastic" strategy in more fields, helping the industry achieve a win-win situation of ecological and economic benefits. It is expected that the proportion of bamboo pulp in pulp molding raw materials will continue to increase in the future.
