Macau to further ban the import of non-degradable disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons
The Macau SAR government announced that it will further ban the import of non-degradable disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons from January 1, 2023.
This is Macau's tightening and implementation of plastic reduction measures after this year's ban on import and transshipment of disposable drinking straws and beverage stir sticks of non-degradable plastic.
The Macau government stated that after the introduction of the restriction of disposable drinking straws and beverage stir sticks of non-degradable plastic at the beginning of this year, after a comprehensive analysis of the actual situation in Macau and the experience of other regions, as well as exchanges and opinions with relevant chambers of commerce and the industry, the SAR government According to the "Foreign Trade Law", the import of non-degradable disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons is prohibited through the instructions of the Chief Executive. The relevant Chief Executive's instructions will take effect from January 1, 2023.
In order to make the industry more clear about the scope of control and related specific operational requirements, the Environmental Protection Bureau will hold a briefing session to further explain to the industry, so as to ensure the effective implementation of the control measures.Since the law of "Restriction on the Provision of Plastic Bags" came into effect in 2019, Macao has gradually banned the provision of free plastic bags in most retail activities; it has also banned the import and transshipment of one degradable plastic product from 2020.
